As the direct working mechanism of Roadheader for cutting rock, Cutting head’s working loads are nonlinear. In order to reveal its dynamic response, the use strategy of LS-DYNA software to simulate the process of cutting rock with it is proposed and a finite element model is established on the basis of lucubrating the cutting mechanism and principles of FEM. The simulation is achieved and the working loads are obtained. Then the reliability and loading characteristics of pick and the effect of cutting speed on the load of pick are analyzed. The numerical simulation is of great value to guiding the design of cutting head and even the whole Roadheader.The key technical issues of the simulation are researched, which makes it possible to simulate the process of Cutting head cutting rock with Numerical Simulation Technology and provides guidance and reference for the wide range of application of the technology.The problem that the finite element of cutting head is established by the mapped method is solved ,and the accurate positioning of pick on cutting head is realized by the the method of transfomation space. The effective connection between alloy head flexible body and pick flexible body or between pick flexible body and cutting head rigid body is realized by using the method of shared nodes and extra nodes to rigid body respectively,which makes it possible to analyse the dynamic response of the flexible pick.
