Inhibition of return (IOR) refers to the individual has paid attention to theposition of attention again showed delayed phenomenon. It is also a especialphenomenon of spatial selective attention.The duration of IOR and capacity ofIOR are the significance index of IOR. There are roundly reflecting the abilityof IOR from time and quantity. In order to thorough understand the militarypilots IOR characteristics and probe the relation of that between the ability ofIOR and flight performance,the research has selected two different types ofairplane of military pilots, by use of simple task to identify the time course ofIOR and the capacity of IOR in simultaneous cueing processes to experimentalresearch.The study consist of two experiments.In experiment1we used simple taskto identify the time course of IOR, studied the differences between differenttypes of airplane and flight time of military pilots and probe the relation effectof that on flight performance, which adopted a2(airplane type:fighter,transporter)×2(time: expert pilots(GT and equal1500h), novice pilots(LT andequal800h))×2(target location: cued, uncued)×3(SOA:400ms,600ms,800ms) mixed factorial design.Airplane type was between-subjects variable and theothers were thin-subject variables. Dependent variable was tested for thedetection of RT and error rate,the effect value of IOR is that difference betweenlocation RT and uncued location RT. In experiment2we used the paradigm ofthe capacity of IOR in simultaneous cueing processes, studied the differencesbetween different types of airplane and flight time of military pilots, whichadopted a2(airplane type:fighter,transporter)×2(time: expert pilots(GT andequal1500h), novice pilots(LT and equal800h))×5(pane piece:1,2,3,4,5)×2(location type: adjacent, spaced)×2(target location: cued, uncued)mixedfactorial design.Airplane type was between-subjects variable and the otherswere thin-subject variables, SOA=700ms. Dependent variable was tested for thedetection of RT and error rate,the effect value of IOR is that difference betweenlocation RT and uncued location RT.Results:1.These data suggested that the expert pilots of fighter began to show IORat a SOA of600and800ms (P﹤0.05), but the novice pilots of fighter began toshow IOR at a SOA of800ms (P﹤0.05); The expert pilots of transporter showa facilitation effect at a SOA of400ms (P﹤0.05) and show IOR at a SOA of800ms (P﹤0.05),the novice pilots of transporter also show a facilitation effectat a SOA of400ms (P﹤0.05) but did not show the phenomenon of IOR at aSOA of600and800ms(P>0.05).2. The results suggested that in simultaneous cueing processes, no matterthat the clueing positions were adjacent or spaced, the capacity of IOR of theexpert pilots of fighter are four, but the capacity of IOR of the expert pilots oftransporter are five; the capacity of IOR of the novice pilots of fighter are three,but the capacity of IOR of the novice pilots of transporter are four. 3.The effect value of IOR at a SOA of400,600and800ms of all fighterpilots are significant correlated with flight performance(r=0.587-0.632,P<0.01),the effect value of IOR at all level SOA of transporter pilots also correlated withflight performance (r=0.568-0.615,P<0.05).The conclusion as follow:1.The expert pilots began to show IOR return in a shorter period of SOA andthe IOR capacity of the expert pilots is larger than novice pilots.In general,theIOR ability of expert pilots is better than novice pilots.2.Compared with transporter pilots,fighter pilots has emerged the IOR in ashorter period of SOA,but the IOR capacity of the transporter pilots is larger thanfighter pilots.3. The ability of IOR is significant related to flight performance and that canto become one of an index for evaluating flight performance.
