To improve the quality of teaching is the core objective of military academies.Teaching evaluation is an important means to guarantee the quality of higher education, but there is no unified view as to how to evaluate the teaching quality scientifically and effectively. This paper attempts to draw on the ideal of process evaluation from "National Survey of Student Engagement"(NSSE) in America, and provide a new ideas and methods for the quality evaluation and improvement in our military academies.Firstly, the paper introduced the background of the transformation of teaching quality evaluation model at home and abroad, described domestic and foreign research of Student Engagement, and found that the concept of "student-centered" education has win support among the foreign people, process evaluation practices were like a raging fire, and more and more domestic higher education institutions and scholars, learning experience from abroad, tried to research into the Student Engagement, and has achieved certain results. Be lack of research on student engagement, it is very necessary for military academies to try to study it.Then, the paper briefly introduced the background, theory basis and development process of student engagement, elaborated the concrete connotation and the features of student engagement of cadets, analyzed the influencing factors and introduced the measurement methods and tools.The paper put forward research hypotheses based on the College Impact Model, and then designed the research; a survey was conducted to1920cadets from university X using NSSE-China2012questionnaire. This paper analyzed the data by the method of the descriptive statistical analysis and Structural Equation Model, drew the following conclusions:(1) The student engagement in X has both advantages and gaps compared with the "project985" colleges, the quality of teaching needs to be further strengthened;(2) The mode of action and degree that student engagement effect on scholastic achievement is not the same.Finally, there are some specific measures to improve the quality of military education(1) establish the concept of students-centered education, and focus on the learning process and student’s development;(2) strengthen the construction of soft environment to provide a supportive campus environment;(3) reform teaching and learning model to mobilize students’ learning enthusiasm;(4) play the educational function of extracurricular learning so as to improve students’ comprehensive quality;(5) improve the student-faculty interaction mechanism in and outside classroom to create a good educational environment.
