GPS positioning technology as well as the RTK positioning technology have been used widely with its measuring accuracy, the control points acquired quickly and operating conveniently, it does not need the inter visibility between each survey station, these characteristics of GPS tech win many surveyor engineer’s favor, including those who undertake in the highway surveying domain. Firstly, GPS static state or the fast static:methods may use for establishing along the route, the overall control network, the mapping strip map, making the route plane, carry on cross section survey vertically and horizontally; it is important and key step for road construction to obtain control network point with GPS method, Secondly, The RTK technology application manifests that this method will play a important role in road construction. Based on the relative positioning theory, RTK can survey and demonstrate the surveying point of three-dimensional coordinates real—time with CM level measuring accuracy.This thesis is concerned on a part of the research project of the GPS(Global Positioning System)in highway design and layout survey. It mainly studies how to use GPS RTK(Real Time Kinematic)in highway survey and design. The thesis thief introduces the composition of GPS and characteristic of work and application current situation in highway engineering. The thesis describes integration of GPS RTK and the engineer professional softwares to solve the particular engineering problems. A new idea of the OSW(open survey world) is developed.
