Chang Daozhi is a famous educationist in China. He studied in Europe and the United States in the early time, since returned to China he began more than40years of education research and teaching career. He had served as the teachers of Anhui University, national Centre College, Beijing Normal University and other institutions of higher school. Moreover, he had also been the director of the secondary education department in education ministry, the dean of Educational Research Council in education ministry as well as the director of the Education Faculty in the Institute of Educational Research of Centre College. Chang daozhi was selected for the second batch of the Department of the Ministry of education appointed professor in1943.He has extensive knowledge and rigorous teaching, mastering English, German, Russian multi-lingual, specializing in educational administration, comparative education, the history of foreign education and other studies. He had published hundreds of papers, which were all profound and Influential.According to the collection of literature, the relevant research on Chang Daozhi’s educational thoughts is almost non-existent. However, as a famous educationist in the period of the Republic of China, his educational thoughts are very worthy to be mining and analysis. The research on his educational thoughts will further broaden the investigative field and vision on Chang Daozhi, as well as offer us the valuable help on in-depth understanding of the period of the Republic of China’s education and social appearance. This paper is going to analyze Chang Daozhi’s educational thoughts so as to make up the lack of research on Chang Daozhi, and tries to find out the useful methods and paths to solute the current educational issues from his thoughts as well as provides reference for today’s educational undertakings.The research is divided into six parts. The first part introduces the background of the research and makes the analysis on some previous research papers. Meanwhile, the framework of the research as well as the research methods has been designed. The second part mainly discusses Chang Daozhi’s educational thoughts in the elementary education stage, including the fairness of compulsory education, curriculum reform and the reform in the school system. The third part analyzes his thoughts in secondary education, containing the course division problems in middle school, the reform of college entrance examination and parents’participation in school construction in three aspects. The fourth part discourses Chang Daozhi’s educational thoughts in the stage of higher education, involving College admissions policy, students’ autonomy and organizational system reform. The fifth part expounds his thoughts of teacher education, including the missions and reform proposals in normal university as well as the teacher’s quality etc. The last part summarizes the characteristics of Chang Daozhi’s educational thoughts as well as the Contribution to the theory and the reality of enlightenment.
