"Classic reading" - A Study of Yangzhou area "classic reading" activities as an example

The Chinese classics must have its own unique value for it can spread so far withstand the test of time.However we need to study further the question where its value places and in which way to realize its value.Reading is the first step into classics.The language and literature lesson is always closely connected with the "reading classics" mission due to its own nature and characteristics. As more and more schools bring "reading classics" into teaching, it is worthwhile to discuss the problem how to deal with the relationship between the language and literature teaching and this activity. Therefore, the author selects this one popular culture activity "reading classical" to study the phenomenon and take the primary and secondary schools in Yangzhou city and Yangzhou University as a case in the hope of revealing and perfecting the method of education, so that the Chinese nation’s excellent cultural tradition can be inherited and developed in the new era.This thesis is mainly divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction which in chief expounds the reason of choosing this subject, literature review and the main research methods the thesis involved. The second part is the overview of "reading classics" which mainly discuss the question in four aspects. For a start, it theoretically explains the two concepts "classics" and "reading". In the next place, it turns back to look and summary the related historical activities of "reading classics". Once again, it points out the activity’s positive effect on the students’ ability of listening, reading and writing. Finally, it analyzes the fundamental reason why the "reading classics" activity suffers a setback under the market economy system. The third part is the investigation analysis of the activity’s status in Yangzhou city. Based on completely understanding of Yangzhou city’s "reading classical" activities.We respectively take students, parents and teachers as investigation objects to investigate the activity’s development situation in partial primary and secondary schools in Yangzhou by the questionnaire survey way and analyze the existing problems. And at the same time, we take the Yangzhou University Arts College’s activity "Poetry Article Examination" for an example to probe into the present resistance in the process of the students’classics reading. After all these, the author summarized the characteristics about the difficulties of "reading classics", and reveals the roots in the culture. There are many praiseworthy results of the activity’s status in Yangzhou city, as well as the problems. So the fourth part is to put forward the practical proposals of the activity directed against the problems founded during investigation from four aspects like thinking and understanding, textbook compilation, teacher training and comprehensive evaluation.
