Extracurricular reading is one of the basic and most effective ways to improve theteaching quality in Chinese education, and enhance the ability of independent learning, Selfperception,as well as the communication between different subjects and the improvement ofthe Literary attainments. So it’s significant to make the extracurricular reading more effectivein middle school. The essence of extracurricular reading is the reading outside of class and thecharacter is to let the students be their own master. Extracurricular reading is the activities thatthe students acquire information independently beyond the textbooks and curricular materials,through which they can gain knowledge, enjoy themselves and cultivate their temperament.Effectiveness of extracurricular reading, that is the students are expected to be improvedand enhanced in terms of reading interest, knowledge system, learning ability andcomprehensive quality through the extracurricular reading. The performances focus on thefollowing aspects: it is the extracurricular reading that makes the students cultivate the goodreading interests and habits, equips the students with the basic method of reading, builds uptheir own unique knowledge system, enables the students to improve their moral quality andideology, and promotes the all-round development of the students.So it’s significant to makethe extracurricular reading more effective in middle school.Reading in middle school has been a pattern that the teachers explain a lot in class. Theteachers and the students both haven’t paid much attention to it or just use improper wayswhich affect the extracurricular reading. Under the guidance of the new curriculum concept,the teachers should change the old practice that imposing the reading experience of educatorsor some fixed, rigid interpretation to the educated, and should show full respect for the highschool students’ need of extracurricular reading, and then guide them to enhance the students’extracurricular Read Effectiveness.The research bases on the effective teaching theory, modern reading study andpsychology etc. It analyses the factors influencing the effectiveness of extracurricular readingfor the senior students, provides us with the methods to promote the effectiveness ofextracurricular reading. That is the teachers should strengthen their extracurricular readingconsciousness and effectively stimulate students’ interests in reading, combine effectively the inside and outside class reading, uide the students with the effective extracurricular reading,and exhibit the evaluation and achievement of reading.
