The construction of local geography teaching materials bases on the new curriculumstandard caters to the development of geography teaching.The new curriculum reform carriedout in Shandong province in2005,put local geography as a part of obligatory learning content,equivalent to Chinese geography and world geography. Geography is one of the elementary coursesin primary and middle schools around the world. Much research has been done abroad onlocal geography. In developed countries like Germany, Britain, France and America, localgeography is a compulsory course. As members of international community, the students arerequired to be responsible for the sustainable development of the globe. In China, moreimportance is attached to the education of local geography, and therefore, the construction oflocal geography teaching materials come to a new phase. Under the pressure of test-orientededucation, The geography of Shandong province, which was once used at the end of the20thcentury, is no longer distributed to the students as textbooks, so the students have no textbooks on local geography. Therefore, it is indispensable to renew the construction of localgeography teaching materials. The thesis adopts a variety of research method such asliterature review, questionnaire, action research, interviews and summarization, conformingto the principle of being scientific, local, comprehensive and practical.
