The opinion on further strengthening and improving ideological and politicaleducation of college students from the CPC Central Committee and the State Councilpointed out that strengthening and improving the ideological and political educationmust emancipate their minds, seek truth from facts and keep pace with times, andadhere to the people-oriented, close to reality and daily life, close to students. Thefirst batch of college students born in1990was enrolled in fall,2008. The1990scollege students, taking the place of the1980s college students will become thesubject in colleges and universities. The1990s college students who are under theinfluence of self-growth environment present their own unique characteristics, andpose real challenges to ideological and political education in colleges and universities.Effective response to challenges from the1990s college students is an important issuewhich colleges and universities are facing. Clearly understanding and grasping the1990s college students’ ideological characteristics and carrying out college students’ideological and political education work on target is conducive to improving theactual effect of ideological and political education in colleges and universities andimproving the comprehensive qualities of college students, so as to train qualifiedconstructors of and successors to society with Chinese characteristics.The first part introduction of this article describes research significance,domestic research thought status on the1990s college students, research train ofthought and research methods;The second part analyses growth environment of the1990s college studentsbeginning with its concept, which is from family, school and society;The third part analyses the main thought features of the1990s college studentsfrom six areas, such as political thought, moral concept, value orientation, selfconsciousness, consumption concept and interpersonal contacts;The fourth part points out the main issue which exists in thought politicaleducation process in the1990s college students from three areas, such as universitymanagement modes, classes of ideological and political theory and ideological andpolitical education workers;The fifth part points out some strategies for ideological and political educationwork of the1990s college students, targeting the main issues which exist inideological and political education work of1990s college students, and points out thatnew education management modes should be explored actively for college students incolleges and universities, according to the characteristic of the1990s college students.The main status of college students should be elaborated from teaching contents,teaching methods and means. Simultaneously, the professional qualities ofideological and political educators should be improved so as to achieve effectively theteaching objectives of ideological and political theory courses. Ultimately I hope that the article can play a role in strengthening and improving ideological and politicaleducation work for college students.
