Science and technology have developed rapidly since human beings step into the21th century. Accordingly, communicating information appears extremely important no matter in which subject or industry. In the age that Internet of Things is coming, GPRS communication technology is playing an important role in every field with its advantages of low cost, being on line forever, relatively high transmission rate, etc. GPRS technology is widely used in the measure of meter, which can realize automated measuring and reading, automated sending, teleprocessing and remote monitoring in many fields such as electricity, water, gas and so on. Besides, it can be used in any application programs like security system, public traffic flow, automation of industrial process, which require unified management service terminals. Moreover, GPRS technology is extensively applied in finance, insurance, commerce, public utility, police, transport, tax, weather, oil, etc. However, related information of designing of GPRS terminal is few because of the difficulties in technology. This paper introduced one design of GPRS terminal, hoping that it can be helped to related technicist.This paper is beginning with analysis and study on the characteristics of GPRS technology and the structure and working principle of GPRS network. Considering the possible environmental factors and performance cost ration, we finally choose singlechip STC11L40XE produced by STC and EM310GPRS module produced by Huawei Company after careful contrast among common singlechips and GPRS modules. According to the singlechip and GPRS module that are selected previously, we design hardware circuit and software system. Then by using C language we design upper computer, namely data service center. Through test by means of GPRS terminal test tool the system is stable in both software and hardware. Performance index also meets requirements. It has some practical value with realizing the function of sending messages and dialing calls.
