A Research of Intelligent Control System for the Urban Traffic Signals of Trunks

With the development of economy and the society,people’s living standard has been greatly increased, China is gradually walking to"the age of the automobile",when the people are enjoying the huge convenience brought by the car,they are also facing a lot of problems that to be more and more serious:such as the traffic congestion,the environment pollution, the energy supply, the energy consumption, the traffic accidents and so on. These problems not only affect the daily life of the residents, but also restrict the sustainable development of the economy and the society for the future.Excepting the construction of urban traffic infrastructure facilities, under the case of the limited resources,like the lands and funds,it is an effective way to research the intelligent transportation to solve the problems above. An advanced intelligent traffic control system requires a lot of hi-technology and its industry to sustain, such as:the data collection, information processing technology, commuication technology, control technology, network technology and so on. Meanwhile, Intelligent transportation system promote the further development of these technologies conversely, So it is a very practical and valuable significance to do research on the intelligent traffic control technology In-depth at the time to solve the urban traffic problems.This paper takes the Urban Traffic Signals of Trunks as research subject, because it bears the main traffic flows of the city. This paper first introduce the backgrounds of this system in home and abroad,then introduce some basic knowledge and theoretical related in this field, and the lacks of those systems. Under this basement, this paper proposes an innovative fuzzy control algorithm of the Trunks. Based on ARM 11 processor core.This paper designs a traffic signal controller to realize this algorithm. It can be divided into two parts according from it’s needs and it’s wanted:hardware partment and software partment.The hardware partment mainly includes some external circuit,like the clocck circuit,the power circuit, the intersection circuit and so on. The core part is the software, the mainly are the fuzzy controller and the operating system components. The paper choose Vxworks as the operating system because of its high stability just fit for the working environments:loudly noise, too much data to process, so much interference, and then move it to the processor with its application programming. Finally the whole paper was summarized, and the development direction of the next step of the research were discussed and forecasted.The innovation of this paper is that the combination of Vxworks and the ARM processor,and then apples to the control system of traffic lights, moreover this system can work under the intelligent control mode, so it has a strong auto-adapted ability.
