As science and technology development and social progress , the end user need not only voice communication services , but also requires data, images and other integrated communication services. However, with copper as a physical entity access technology can not meet the users for data , images and other business needs, as the information highway of the \bottlenecks. Passive Optical Network (PON) is an emerging cover the last mile broadband fiber optic technology for passive optical network (PON) technology on the endless, ATM-based passive optical network technology (APON), broadband Passive Optical Network (BPON), ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON), Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and other technologies to further promote the development of optical access network . The authors Unicom work, participated in the Ethernet passive optical network EPON implementation of the project , through the practice gained Ethernet passive optical network EPON technology application experience . This paper first introduces the basic concepts of optical access network , including functional configuration , topology structure. Then introduced the passive optical network (PON) the functional structure and techniques based on passive optical network (PON) for APON / BPON, EPON, GPON technology to do overview and comparison . Then describe the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) works , architecture, hierarchical model , key technologies and technical advantages of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) three application modes for analysis. Article focuses on some of the common customer scenarios were analyzed according to different customer scenarios focus on communication and networking business needs , it presents the application of these customer scenarios Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) networking solutions and program recommendations the pros and cons of the final , actual work involved in the Xing Kang home district ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) access network construction program case studies and lessons learned, that the ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) technology is mature with fiber , equipment and other costs decline , a variety of applications for high bandwidth requirements , ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) to access programs in the future to be more widely applied and developed.
