Along with the trend of globalization and informationization, as well as fast technology advancement and industrial upgrading, international competition becomes increasingly intense and complex. It will become more and more difficult for Chinese enterprises to achieve good performance in the fierce competition. Especially in the recent years, because of the rapid rise in production cost, including raw materials and labor, etc., continuous increase in non-tariff barriers, and substantial appreciation of RMB, the Chinese enterprises which are in the process of internationalization are facing tremendous pressures of survival and development. Under such serious situation, some domestic enterprises begin to cooperate with competitors on the basis of "win-win". In order to enhance individual competitiveness and achieve better performance in the international market, the partners collaboratively compete with others through establishing a strategic alliance.Taking this kind of Chinese enterprises as research object, the purpose of this study was to extract the driving factors for the international entrepreneurship oriented enterprises in China to form strategic alliance with competitors, and find out the reasons why different enterprises choose different cooperation mode, based on previous researches on international entrepreneurship and strategic alliance, as well as special situation in China.Literature research and empirical study are jointly conducted. Through a large number of on-site survey and in-depth case studies on the basis of systematic literature review on the field of international entrepreneurship and strategic alliance, this paper proposes a model of drivers of strategic alliance formation and cooperation mode selection for international entrepreneurial enterprises in China.124enterprises were surveyed by questionnaire.After extensive quantitative and qualitative analysis, some conclusions are drawn as follows: (1) There mainly are five types of factors which will drive international entrepreneurial enterprises to form strategic alliance with competitors, including key resources acquisition, cost sharing, operating risk decentralization, co-competitiveness improvement and preferential policies acquisition.(2) Enterprises driven by different factors will have different preference on the types of cooperating content and governance structure while forming an alliance.(3) The enterprise with different scale, different degree of internationalization, or supreme leader in different age might choose different cooperation mode.In addition, this paper provides a discriminant function which can be used to predict enterprises’preference in cooperating content and governance structure, and also draws out the key indicators for distinguishing enterprises’action of cooperation mode selection.
