Assessing the patent value is a systematic and complex work stronglyrequiring theories, legality techniques, and timeliness. The researches onpatent evaluation methods are not only related to the management, economics,but also to laws, accounting rules, and other disciplines. As one kind of theChinese patent applications, the industrial design is becoming increasinglyprevailing, and is widely applied in industrial and service trades. Making thereasonable assessment of the value of industrial designs not only has a directimpact on the transactions of the industrial design, but also has a greatsignificance for grasping the present situation and benefits, for planning thefuture of the patent.Based on the intellectual property rights and patent value theory as wellas systematic analysis of the researches on patent valuation both at home andabroad, this article firstly discusses the characteristics and significance ofvalue assessment for design. And then, according to the analysis of the design patent value factors, this paper tries to figure out the three basic elementsdetermining the design patent value. Finally, this article makes comparisonsamong the three traditional patent valuation methods: the present valuemethod, the market value method and the replacement cost method in depth.Moreover, this article elaborates application of these three methods in theindustrial design valuation, and put forward their practicality in differentsituations. This paper is making use of a design patent value evaluationmethod, objectively and effectively evaluate this typ0e of patent value, toprovide useful reference.
