A Case Study of School-Based Curriculum Development of Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism and Business

Compared with the School-Based Curriculum Development and research abroad, our School-Based Curriculum Development and research methods are more theoretical and less practical. Especially we seldom make the unique "school-based" empirical research or case analysis. In the content of the research, we emphasize the demonstration of the necessity of School-Based Curriculum Development, but pay little attention on the reality of the situation in vocational schools.Based on the study on the case of School-Based Curriculum Development of Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism and Business, this thesis analyzes the conspicuous problems in the School-Based Curriculum Development and proposes seeking solution ways for the benefit of promoting the overall development of school-based curriculum, constructing the courses system with the characteristics of schools and beneficial to develop students and teachers’profession to adapt to the need of educational reform and future development, and providing the beneficial reference to the peers.This thesis contains four parts as follows:The first part is the introduction. Clarify the research background, research methods, research meaning and purpose.The second part is the literature review. Through the literature research, expound the concept of School-Based Curriculum Development, and analyzes the history and current situation of school-based curriculum developmen in both China and abroad.The third part is the case analysis of School-Based Curriculum Development of Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism and Business. Based on the analysis of the school’s situation, and the background and situation of School-Based Curriculum Development,the author summarizes the characteristic, the effect and the facing problems in School-Based Curriculum Development of Guangzhou Vocational School of Tourism and Business, and puts forward some relevant measures.The fourth part is the strategies for improvement in School-Based Curriculum Development of secondary vocational schools. According to the problems facing with School-Based Curriculum Development, puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions.The fifth part is the conclusion of the research and limitations.The application of the case study approach to the problems of School-Based Curriculum Development is an innovation of this thesis. Because of the limitations of the case,whether to develop school-based curriculum in other schools has universal significance or not is questionable as well. The feasibility and effectiveness in practice of the recommendations and responses for solving problems in this thesis also need to be further testified. And also it’s the writer’s future research direction.
