Higher vocational education is an important part of both higher education system and vocational education system. After the popularization of higher education, higher vocational education has been developed rapidly, accounting for almost "half" of the higher education in China. However, along with the great development of higher vocational education, the maladjustment problems of higher vocational teachers come out, which severely restrict the development of higher vocational education.Therefore, the study of questions about vocational college teachers, especially the teachers’ professional development is playing important role in promoting long-term development of higher vocational education. Since I have been working in the vocational college, I have some experience and feelings about the work of the municipal vocational colleges and the teachers’ professional development, and I have paid close attention to the teacher professional development, accumulating some information in recent years. Based on this, this thesis target on Guangzhou municipal vocational colleges as research subject, using the literature study and questionnaire as the main research methods, carrying out in-depth investigation of the situation of the teachers’ professional development, learning about the major problems facing to the teacher professional development and analyzing the cause for the problems. By sorting out the problems, the author found the existing problems of the professional development of teachers are:firstly, the lack of awareness of their own professional development; second; secondly, the lack of vocational curriculum development and instructional design skills; thirdly, the lack of professional practice operation skills and experience; fourth, school-enterprise cooperation should be expanded further in depth and breadth; fifthly, teachers’ research and teaching capability need to be improved. This thesis analyzes the causes of these problems, in the meanwhile, with the particularity of Higher Vocational Education, the thesis proposes specific suggestions on professional development of higher vocational college teachers in the practice level:Ⅰ. to establish a complete professional standard and higher vocational college teacher access system;Ⅱ. to establish vocational cultivating and training, institutions and system;Ⅲ. to reform and improve a complete tile accessing system and check-up system for higher vocational college teachers;Ⅳ. to strengthen the autonomy rights of the professional development of teachers;Ⅴ. to create a favorable atmosphere and to optimize the development of higher vocational educational environment.
