Rencently, with the continuous development of technology, the tower crain becomes more diverse and complicated,which lead to increasing accidents when working,more and more complex reasons resullting in accidents and growing damage and loss. While the ratinal detection can effecitively reduce the probability of the crane failure. This paper quotes RBI to which has been used in petrochemical industry widely. It can avoid the defects that is excessive detection, the deficiency of inspection and so on,which existed in traditional test.Fistly,this paper summarizes the reason and result of crain failure,establishes FMEA datebase and design the table of sample collection to collect failure data for these failures.these prvoid a foundation for the next qualitative and quatitative assessment.Secondly,we carry out quatitative assessment of the tower crain.Defining the coefficient according to the factors affecting the failure of tower crain in quatitative assessment, setting the weights of every coefficient,classifing the consequents of failure and then getting the risk of tower crain parts according to RBI risk matrix.And detailed quatitative assessment is applied to analysis the high-risk parts.Computing the univer failure probability based on collected failure data and then using Analytic Hierarchy Process and Multi-level Gray envalution to compute the correction factor and giving the management coefficent.The general failure probability is amended by the two coeffients and the probability of failure is obtained.Meanwhile,using the risk matrix to calculate the risk level of parts.Then we can get the inspection cycle and appropriate test methods.Lastly, security assessment software is edited by use of visual basic6.0and access,in case of getting the inspection cycle and test methods easier.The application of RBI technology in overhead traveling crane risk assessment is a new thinking for development of crane detecting techniques,improving the safety manegement of the tower crain greatly and offering mirror and reference in crane accident prevention and safety design.
