It is well known that large fossil fuel power plant is the enormous coal consumer. Numbers of dust is produced during transfer and transport coal. It makes the coal handling system become one of the worst environment workplace in the power plant. All of these affect the workers’s body health and equipment safety. In recent years, China has promuigated a number of national standards for workplace environment, which defined standards of harmful substances, the environment of coal handling system has become a problem can not be ignored. So it is important to comprehensive control the dust of coal handling system.In this paper, the basic properties of the coal dust is analysed, various kinds of dust removal methods are mainly investigated and various types of dust collector are described. It comes to conclusion that takes mechanical dust removal as the principal thing, supplemented water spray suppression and seal the dust overflow points. And it takes Zhejiang Jiaxing power plant for example, includes getting the places of making dust, method of dust suppression, calculating the dust removal air flow of mechanical dust removal point, comparing and selecting the dust collector and designing the pipeline of dust removal system. According to the results, the fans for dust collector are optimal selected, it saves energy while improving dust removal effect.After being proved and optimized by real project experience, the research achievements in this paper can be applied in subsequent similar domestic projects, which could not only save a large number of investment, but also accelerate the subsequent project construction progress. In one word, it will make a great contribution to Chinese electric power construction and environmental protection.
