It is of great significance for improving modern management level of power supply enterprises to introduce GIS in the operation and management of modern power grid. The application of geographic information system technologies for grid management contributes to the organic combination among maps, imagery and property data, thereby greatly improving the quality and reliability of electric energy supply, the security of power system, and the quality of grid management.This article first expounds the concept and characteristics of geographical information system, analyses the paper selected topic background, research significance and research status at home and abroad. The demand for GIS grid management system is analyzed, and then the article writes about the system’s overall designing framework, the thinking of software and hardware design, database design, and functions of system implementation. As a case study of yangzhou power grid management, regional power grid management system based on GIS is designed and developed. System applies real-time data acquisition, database technology, GIS technology, component technology and communication technology such as network to design and develop the real-time grid operating parameters automatic acquisition, power facilities, unified management of visualization, graphical GIS management system of power grid.The system uses three-phase multi-function ac power acquisition module for power grid real-time signal acquisition, adopts the Modbus protocol to automatically read the equipment operation parameters, automatically alarms over abnormal events, and through GPRS wireless communication network, uses TCP/IP protocol to pass the acquisition equipment real-time parameters to the upper computer, into the system database; and at the same time displays, analyses and visually inquires about power grid equipment parameter data and graphic data on the electronic map of visual power grid.The system development selects SQL sever2008as the database platform, MapX component provided by the Mapinfo company as a GIS platform, Visual Studio2010as development environment, c#language as the development language of the whole system. This realizes the ledgers query, statistics, layer management, space positioning, real-time monitoring, failure alarm, report printing, etc to the entire power system equipment. Query statistics feature includes the query statistics in accordance with the line of equipment code, name, or administration of substation, work area, capacity, voltage grade, the measurement on line length and the distance between the space elements, and the measurement on the area of facility in the GIS map. Space positioning,facilities can be positioned in a variety of ways such as condition query, list query, and geometric query, and facility property also can be inquired through the graphs. Real-time monitoring is to use Modbus protocol and serial port communication technology to acquire equipment real-time parameters and to display on the GIS map in real time.
