The quayside container crane (QC for short) is a kind of large port machine. Itworks beside the port yard and transport the containers between the yard and the ship.So it’s very important for the cargo shipping of the world. The safety and reliability ofthe running of QC is the key of insuring the working efficiency and cargo safety. As alarge electrical machine, the reliability and safety of high voltage power supplysystem of QC is necessary. Now, more and more new technology have been used onthe production of port electrical equipments, such as electronic technology, new typemotor productions, materials science, computer science etc. Some of thesetechnologies need to be test there reliability.This paper is based on the most advanced QC in the world, introduce the structureof the high voltage supply system of a QC and analyze the insulating of the HV cableusing in the power supply system, including the material, the environment and therunning status of the cable. And then, analyze the electric field of the cable sectionwith Maxwell electrical engineering simulation software. Cable reel system is oneimportant part of power supply system, so the principle and dependability analyzing isincluding in this article. After all, a method of preventive maintenance on HV powersupply system of QC has been putting forward.This article is base on QC, but it is also helpful for other kinds of port machines orlarge electrical machines.
