With the force of current society and new curriculum, inquiry learning, featured by "students are the center of the classroom teaching", becomes a tendency in junior high school English teaching. It is utilized to solve the existing problems and to improve the effectiveness of the junior high school classroom teaching about English reading. Students’initiative and creative abilities can be boosted.This paper falls into five parts:The First part is an introduction to expound the research background、framework、significance and research methods, to state current theoretical research,and to point out its highlights as well. The second part specifies the inquiry learning and junior high school English reading:its connotation、characters with combination of English reading features and theoretic base:Constructism、Cognitism and Humanism. The third part is investigation from the students in the author’s school, which helps to understand the problems with classroom teaching about English reading in junior high school. The inquiry learning is a ideal choice to solve the problems:it activates students’interest in English reading and boost overall development; it deepens teachers’ teaching capabilities; it develops the favorable relationship between teachers and students. The fourth part is the application in class of inquiry English reading teaching. The analysis based on observation and interview after class is included. There are some factors to handicap the application of inquiry learning:misunderstanding in inquiry learning; the unsuitable content of research; no guarantee for the establishment of friendly class culture.The last part throws light on suggestions about how to carry out inquiry learning in classroom reading teaching:Teachers should update the concept to act as a qualified guide; Students should optimize the methods of learning to integrate into the process of inquiry; The textbook should be tackled flexibly to identify suitable content for inquiry; The undiversified methods of evaluation should be changed to cultivate the friendly class culture with all efforts.
