The course of College English Viewing, Listening and Speaking is a newly-developed course in our country. It has been gradually recognized, promoted and popularized. New Horizon College English:Viewing, Listening and Speaking, which contains supporting teaching video disc to serve both teacher and students in class, is the textbook used in viewing, listening and speaking class in College of Optical And Electronic Information, Changchun University of Science And Technology. Besides, multimedia language lab is offered for teacher and students in their viewing, listening and speaking class.On the basis of the studies of multimodal discourse analysis, combining the students’ characteristics of our college, I explore ways to analyze the textbook New Horizon College English:Viewing, Listening and Speaking used in our college from the perspective of multimodal discourse analysis. It is expected to assist college English teachers better comprehend and grasp the textbook, design more appropriate teaching plan, adopt more effective teaching method, gradually perfect viewing, listening and speaking course, increase students’comprehensible input, improve learning efficiency, and help students reach their utmost development zone of listening and speaking proficiency. Besides, it is hoped that this empirical study helps College English Teachers change the conception of listening teaching, promote the development and perfection of the textbook, and provide new research foundations for the future researchers in relative fields.During the writing of the thesis, many questionnaires are done and data are collected for the further analysis. The results relatively reflect the realistic condition of College English teaching and studying in our college, and the overall evaluation of the textbook from teachers and some students, which help improve the quality of textbooks and realize the most optimized teaching and learning effects.
