With the acceleration of Globalization, more and more people begin to realize the importance of developing language learners’cultural awareness. Though some efforts have been made in cultivate college students’cultural awareness, their cultural awareness is not very strong. For example, students are relatively weak in general background knowledge about the target culture. Many of them do not know how to use the target language properly in actual situations and thus show relatively weak communicative competence when encountering native speakers.Although there have been a lot of researches in this aspect up to now. yet many of them are limited to static comparative study or sharing their personal teaching experience. Few of them discuss which teaching method is more effective and more suitable to apply cultural strategies in teaching practice. Through research study and data analysis, this paper attempts to explore a more effective teaching approach to carry out strategies in College English Teaching so as to further improve students’ cultural awareness and thus ensure a more successful cultural communication.This paper is based on the theory about cultural awareness, and is made up of five chapters.Chapter one is the introduction, which introduces the background, significance and structure of this paper.Chapter two is the literature review. In this part, the relationship between language, culture and communication is analyzed. It introduces the concept and modes of Cultural Awareness. This chapter also makes a historical review of the culture teaching both home and abroad.Chapter three introduces the research design, including research questions, subjects, instruments, methodology, and experimental procedure as well.Chapter four makes a systematic analysis on the data and results of the research and talks about the current situation of cultural awareness cultivation in College English education. Some effective measures and strategies are put forward on improving the cultivation of cultural awareness.The fifth chapter restates the significance and outcome of this research. Also, some limitation of this research is mentioned.
