Effect of PCK on the efficiency of high school English Classroom Teaching

Teachers play an important role in teaching and education. In recent years, with the development of teacher professionalization, PCK becomes a spindle of the specialized education movement. In traditional English teaching, teaching activities are committed to achieve the desired teaching objectives. In the new curriculum background, teaching effectiveness relates to:the student’s progress or development, promoting the effective learning of students and so on. Scientific educational reform puts forward new demands on teachers’ professional development, and PCK is particularly important.The article summarizes the concept of PCK and effective teaching in the part of introduction, and analyzes the relevant research at home and abroad. The second chapter discusses the elements of teachers’professional knowledge, and the PCK elements of a senior middle school English teacher. The third Chapter is about a investigation of an urban senior middle school in J County, Shaanxi Province, and a deep thinking on PCK of an English teacher. This senior middle school is a common middle school located in the northern part in Shaanxi Province. The quality of teaching is relatively backward, and the level of teachers’professional knowledge should be improved. The article mainly analyzes two types of classroom teaching. One is a famous English teacher recruited from outside, and the other one is an empiric local English teacher. Meanwhile the researcher makes the student questionnaire combining with the theories of PCK from the students’point of view. The questionnaires related to five dimensions of PCK: the discipline professional knowledge, the strategic knowledge, the situational knowledge and the knowledge about the students. Finally the article analyzes the valid questionnaires data, and the analysis shows that there are significant differences between the recruited teacher and the local teacher in the aspect of strategic knowledge and the knowledge about the students. The results also show that there is a greater impact on the effectiveness of English teaching. The fourth chapter analyzes deeply on the teaching of recruited teacher. The researcher interviewed the recruited teacher and the interview related to dimension covered by PCK. The famous recruited gave the reasonable suggestions as follows:As a qualified English teacher, first, you should have some basic language skills of speaking, reading, writing, etc; Second, you must use the knowledge of teaching strategies, such as the use of multimedia; third, you should be familiar with the contextual knowledge. At last, you should have some reasonable knowledge of the students. At the same time, the researcher conducts a depth analysis of the famous teacher in actual classroom teaching. On the basis of the analysis, the researcher proposes four important suggestions in order to enhance the classroom effectiveness. Combining with the classroom observation, interview contents and the students’ questionnaire statistics, the article summarizes the development strategy of urban senior middle school English teachers’ PCK. In the end, the article puts forward some reasonable suggestions from teachers, school policies and social-oriented.From a theoretical perspective, the article combines integration about the PCK and effective teaching at home and abroad, investigates the elements of teachers’ professional knowledge, especially on the elements of the urban senior middle school English teachers’ PCK. It contributes to the further improvement of the English teachers’ professional knowledge theory, and to the diversification in the field of this research. In the actual situation, combining with the circumstances of senior middle school teachers, the article analyses the effectiveness of classroom teaching from the English teachers’perspective. It will help English teachers to reflect on their teaching situation, and improve the current situation of urban high school English teaching. What’s more, it will also help to improve the effectiveness of the English classroom teaching, and enhance the students’ English proficiency and the students’ comprehensive development.
