During the regime change between Yuan and Ming Dynasty, the society was full ofupheavals with little living space for people. The life directions and psychological states ofliterati, especially those in the southern areas present differently. Weisu is the prominentrepresentative of the southern literati in Zhizheng period of the late Yuan Dynasty. He can berepresentative to a certain extent for his unique style in thought, moral values and philosophy.Different from ordinary talented one who is a wunderkind, succeed at a young age andretire at the height of his prosperity at the middle age, Weisu was born in a poor family inJinxi (Jiangxi now). And he was unsuccessful in his study and examination till in his forties,he began to enter the official career and finally achieved success in his sixties. Starting fromthe humble position "Jingyan Jiantao", he adhered to enter the officialdom full of thorns withcalmness of the middle-aged, unyielding and relentless spirit. During the Yuan Dynasty, onthe one hand, the neo-confucianism has gradually become the debate between Zhu and Lu. Onthe other hand, the study of Buddhism prevailed. Weisu advocated practising and participatingactively. At the same time, his thought was complicated and contradictory for his closerelationship with Buddhists. His specific insights on religious construction enriched histhoughts. His family background, living environment, studying experience, the education hereceived, and the people he contacted are the reason why he choose Ming Dynasty.In the unrest society, people tend to find a foundation from the Confucianism. It’s adilemma to choose between not serving two emperors and obedience to the destiny. Weisubecame an official in Ming Dynasty therefore served the new emperor. However, HongwuEmperor implemented the binary policy to woo and blow Yuan officials, causing Weisu to bea political victim and ending his life tragically.
