A study of the problem under the new media environment specification of supervision by public opinion

The impact of the rapid development of Internet media has spread to all aspects of social life. As the combination of the Internet and mobile network, micro blog and other forms of we-media have provided a more convenient and broader platform for public opinion than traditional media, making it more effective in supervising public rights and participating public governance. However, supervision by public opinion itself is new and lack of balance in structure, and tend to be non-rational, emotional; coupled with government’s passive or improper behavior when facing supervision, it sometimes causes intensification or even group events of some kinds. These are the problems that a government must confront when dealing with social management.By consulting document literature related to new media and public supervision, this paper first clarifies the concept of public supervision and its current situation and development. Through comparative analysis, the paper presents the difference and similarity between the traditional and new media when it comes to public supervision. It also gives empirical analysis by understanding and discussing the results of questionnaires, visits and typical cases that happened recently. Last, the paper points out, from the perspective of social governance, that by managing micro blog, the network environment of public opinion could be improved.Through the above arguments, the paper proposes the following recommendations:, the government change management philosophy; to create a more rational and relaxed environment of public opinion through the establishment of government-traditional media-new media "opinion leaders" linkage between the media guide mechanism; to help people standardize supervision methods and means so that they could express their interest demands freely, as well as to achieve effective supervision of public power.
