A Research on Current Situations of High School Geography Teachers in the Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County

Teachers in the educational activities are the organizers and the guides, and are ina dominant position in the process of implementation of educational activities. Atpresent, with the rapid development of Chinese education, teachers’ roles in real lifehave showing the diverse and complex trends. With the implementation anddevelopment of quality education, the conversion of the roles of teachers needs more,higher demands on teachers’ literacy requirements and corresponding teachers’training problems.This research focuses on the high school geography teachers in the TianzhuTibetan Autonomous County, and the questionnaires and the interviews are used toconduct a survey on the current situations of the teachers. It makes a comparativeanalysis of six aspects, and finds that the current Tianzhu Tibetan AutonomousCounty high school geography teachers are in the needs to improve education andteaching activities, and proposes the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions,to make them work better in geography teaching.This paper has six parts:The first part is an introduction to clarify the research backgrounds, literaturereviews, research purposes and significances, general situation of the study area,research ideas and methods.The second part is the analysis about the current situations of the TianzhuTibetan Autonomous County high school geography teachers in the survey, in which itcontains four aspects mainly, such as the proportion from gender, ethnicity to age,seniority; education levels, professional structure, titles; teaching ability, teachingattitude and the update on their knowledge, their teaching and research capacity.The third part is the comparative analysis on the current situations of the TianzhuTibetan Autonomous County high school geography teachers, mainly about sixaspects: the men and women, young and old, junior school and senior school, Tibetansand Han Chinese, Tibetan and Common Middle Schools, middle schools in thecountry seat and in the villages.The fourth part is the issues founded in this investigation: teaching skills of the teachers need to be improved; teaching attitudes aren’t correct; the weakness inupdating of their knowledge; the research ability on teaching is poor; the irrationalallocation in teacher resources; Tibetan characteristics of education, Tibetangeography teacher resources are insufficient.The fifth part is the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions proposed:comprehensive approaches to improve geography teaching capabilities; correct theteaching attitudes of geography teachers; strengthen the ability in updating subjectknowledge of geography teachers; configuring geography teacher resources rationally;develop the Tibetan geography teacher resources.The sixth part is the epilogue.
