A Study on the Professional Development of TAFE Teachers in Australia

The quality of teacher is directly related to the education level, get a high level ofeducation must improve teachers’ quality, so the issue of teachers’ professionaldevelopment is particularly important. TAFE college know the important role ofteachers, so especially pay attention to teacher’s professional development and havemany ways to promote their professional development, so the TAFE mode is veryfamous in the world. In this paper, it analysis the speciifc situation in Australia TAFE,and get enlightenment from its successful experience, and provide reference tovocational teachers in our country.There are ifve parts in this paper, they are the introduction, the process of theprofessional development of TAFE, the theory, practice and enlightenment ofprofession development.The ifrst part is the introduction, it relates to the purpose and relevant studies ofthe profession development, the purpose and meaning of the study, the concept ofTAFE.The second part concentrates on the history process of teacher professionaldevelopment in TAFE. The process is divided into three stage，namely initial stage,the stage of reform and development stage.There are three professional development theories in the third part. It emphasizesthree kind theories: teacher focus theory of Fuller; teacher cooperation theory ofHargreaves; and teacher renewal theory of Gaff.The fourth part studies the practice of teacher professional development in TAFE.Including the standard of professional development; administrative organization; theconcent of professional development; organic safeguards and the ways of professionaldevelopment.The last part is the enlightenment of the profession development, it givesconclusions of what can we learn from the study, and gives suggestions to vocationalteacher professional development in our country.
