CDIO International Engineering Education Model and "the Plan for Training Excellent Engineers" sponsored by Ministry of Education are the new achievements of engineering education reform at home and abroad in recent years. They have not only carried forward and advanced the engineering education reform concept which has developed in Europe and America for over20years, but more importantly systematically put forward12criteria for ability cultivation. They are the neat epitome and abstract expression of "learning by doing" and "studying based on projects’". They are the education concept which combines practical teaching with theoretical teaching, a new approach of cultivating innovative engineering talents in engineering universities. Since2008, conforming to the trends of development of economy, society and environment, Chengdu University of Information and Technology (CUIT) has introduced and learned from the advanced engineering education model and concept and launched an all-round reform of higher engineering education.As an indispensable part of engineering talents cultivation system, the course of Public Physical Education should integrate course objectives and engineering talents cultivation objectives. Under the guidance of CUIT’s engineering talents cultivation plan of harmonious development of the trinity of "knowledge, ability and quality’ Public Physical Education went beyond the original category and perspective and conducted necessary reform. It emphasized that based on the previous "Three Basics" education pattern, we should spare no effort to reinforce the cultivation of practical and innovative ability and enhance the comprehensive quality of college students. Through the adjustment, supplement and even reconstruction of Physical Education course objectives, cultivation patterns, course contents, and teaching plans and the innovation of teaching methods and approaches, the course would not only meet the needs of subject development (including physical education and engineering subjects), but also meet the needs of present and future development of students in engineering universities. Therefore, we got the initial results in constructing the cultivation plan of college public physical education course based on the advanced engineering education concept and promoted the teaching connotation of physical education course in engineering universities.This research took Martial Arts course as a pilot study, gave a trial on the plan and got satisfactory feedback. We will take a further step to reinforce and broaden the scope of pilot research. adjust and improve the plan. and try to finish the revision, improvement and promotion of the plan in two or three years.
