A Study on Neuromuscular Feature of Pull Phase in Power Boating and Rowing of Chinese Elite

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to analysis difference in kinematics and relatively muscle sEMGfeatures on pull phase in powerboat racing elites in water and ROWING, and provide the basis forspecialization muscle training. The EMG data is use to detect the muscle activation andsequencing, kinematics data is use to explore boat elite’s features in pull phase. Through thosedata discus pull phase’s difference and similarity in two difference conditions.Methods:Two Sony HDV Camera (HDR-FX1E)， Biovisions EMG Measurement System.(Germany,16Channels) and indoor rowing(concept-2Morrisville, VT, USA)were used in this study. EMG testmuscles include:Results:Pull phase in boating:Quant From pull to vertical with the boat cost70%times in whole phase. In pull phase, jointsangle motion: knee joint angle is117.4°, trunk is31.7°; there is no difference in body positionwhen quant into water, and obvious difference when quant out of water. Joint angle speed peaksequence is trunk→knee→hip→elbow→shoulder. Muscle work/load results is: biceps brachii＞wastus medialis＞latissimus dorsi＞tricps drachii＞semitendinosus＞pectoralismajor＞teapezius＞rectus femoris＞gastrocnemius＞erector spinae＞rectusabdominis＞deltoid＞gluteus maximusAccording muscle activation and peak value, muscle activation sequencing is form low to upperlimbs.Pull phase in ROWING：In ROWING，pull phase in three levels(1,5,10) cost0.73s,0.77s and0.79s. With the levelsdevelopment, trunk angle and elbow angle stare to decrease and increase. Slide seat is closer to front boat. But when access to end point, low and upper limbs are move little and trunk angle isincreasing. Velocity peak values sequence is: knee→hip→trunk→shoulder→elbow in1level; In5and10, velocity peak values sequence is: knee→hip→trunk→shoulder→elbow. Velocity sequencedemonstrate pull phase is accord to kinematic chains, from knee joint, trunk, shoulder to elbow.With the levels to development, shoulder, hip, knee and trunk angle’s maximum value emergelater in whole phase, especially hip and trunk angle. In muscle work/load values: biceps brachii、teapezius、 wastus medialis、 latissimus dorsiare higher than other muscles. According toenvelop-line, there is no difference in muscle activation sequencing when levels are increased.However, the peak values are show later in whole phase.Boating and ROWING comparison:In kinematics, there are not obvious distinction between boating and1Levels of ROWING inangle of start and end phase, angle activation range in pull phase, maximum angle velocity. Inknee, trunk and elbow angle XY scatter diagram, pull phase are easy discriminate from boatingand ROWING: In boating, pull phase start from knee to trunk, when knee joint is finish, the trunkangle is end in same times;but in ROWING，the knee and trunk activate together, when knee angle is finish, the trunk angle isstill increasing.Joint angle scatter diagram, maximum joint angle velocity in1levels of ROWING is similar withboating. In muscle work/load results,1and5levels are more similar with boating; Levelsincreasing are not difference in low and upper limbs but in trunk. In muscle sequencing,1levelsof ROWING’s peak point position are similar with boating except rectus femoris.Conclusion:1. In China boating elite’s pull phase, The previous stage Technical movements of pulling thepaddleis more important than the later stage Technical movements of pulling the paddle.biceps brachii、wastus medialis、latissimus dorsiare the main contribution muscles in boating,China boating elite’s pull technique skill is formal and stable, but trunk angle is open slightearly. 2. With the ROWING’s levels increasing, pull phase is extended, low and upper limbsactivations are slow down, but trunk joint increase larger. Joint angle and muscle activationare no difference in ROWING and boating. However, the peak point emerge position laterwith the levels increase, and trunk muscle were affected. biceps brachii、teapezius、wastusmedialis和latissimus dorsi are main contribution muscle in ROWING。3. Compare with the kinematics different. In ROWING trunk activate early, elbow activatelate and pull movement in ROWING is more drastic than boating in water.1levels results aremost close to boating in water.4. Muscle peak value emerge time, muscle activate offset and onset time in1levels of ROWINGare more closer to boating in water. Muscle work/load results in5and10levels are morecloser to boating in water.5. ROWINGis a better specialization training method for power boating elite.1levels training isnear to actual boating in water. In technical skill development, ROWINGis helpful inconsolidate and correct technical skill. ROWING training and muscle activation are notcompletely in same. For this reason, best way to technique skill training is in water not inROWING.
