HUD is essential in modern combat aircraft. The location and display images can be observed simultaneously by the use of HUD. With the progress of science and technology, the disadvantage of traditional HUD has become more and more obvious. The researchers worked to improve the index, they made many programs but no substantive progress overall. Then the diffraction HUD using a holographic element was invented. The diffraction HUD had a wide instantaneous field of view and high brightness quickly became the focus of the research.The working principle and technical characteristics of diffraction HUD are studied in this paper. Structures of diffraction HUD at home and abroad are compared. Reference design structure practical is selected. The holographic combiner which one is important in the optical system of diffraction HUD is studied. In the processing of holographic combiner, from the aspects of production method and production material, the light path is determined, and through the comparison of the parameters of holographic material recording material is selected. In the research process, the model of holographic combiner is established, the design and analysis of the optical system is completed by the use of software. Calculation method for the optimization design of the parameters in the working process is introduced. The key problems in the process are described. The actual performance of the design results is analyzed. The final design result meets the technical requirements, and has practical value.
