VOIP is a communication technology that based on IP network. It has receivedwidely concerned because of its natural advantages such as saving bandwidth, highcost-effectiveness ratio etc. In recent years, due to the high-speed development ofcomputer technology and network technology, the embedded system appears to breakthe limitation of only using on PC, which greatly expanded the application range.Meanwhile, VOIP technology itself is constant developping, business scope expandingfrom traditional voice communication to video communications, data transceiver. Inshort, VOIP is an important means of communication in the future and it has broadprospects for development.Presently, there are two IP telephony architecture standards: H.323protocol andSIP protocol. The former is for traditional telecom network multimedia services, and thestarting point of the latter is based on the existing internet IP telephone services for thebenchmark build. SIP protocol, however, because of its simple, flexible, and othertechnical features are being gradually replaced by the original H.323protocol VOIPsignaling core protocol. Therefore, the SIP protocol and its applications own very largeresearch value. This paper focuses on the SIP protocol and designs a VOIP system basedon the embedded system.This paper firstly summarized the background and research status of the subject,and introduced the key technologies involved VOIP system, including the basicfunctions of the SIP protocol and its signaling processes. And for the processing ofmultimedia data, highlighting the Mediastreamer2introduced to assist in the designdevelopment of multimedia streaming technology engine; then focuses on the design ofhardware and software implementation of the program, including the specificimplementation details of the selection and design of the software modules of thehardware platform. Finally, test the whole system. The result shows that this design cancomplete the registration, setup and teardown the session. All these functions follow theSIP protocol, achieving the predetermined design goals. The article concludes the workof the paper and subsequent development prospect.
