A Research and Implementation of a Routing Algorithm Based on TDMA of Industrial Wireless Sensor Network

Industrial Wireless Sensor Network (IWSN) is an emerging technology in the field of industrial automation and control, which is applied widely in fields of environment monitoring, data collection, operation control and etc. Recently, with the rapid development of wireless communications, integrated circuits, sensors and computer systems, the production largely of the low-cost, low-power and multi-functional wireless sensors is becoming possible. Therefore, IWSN is becoming a hot research topic between industry and academia, especially the research of the routing algorithms in wireless sensor networks.This thesis focused on the routing algorithm research in IWSN, proposing a TDMA-based routing algorithm to guarantee the real-time delay and high reliability of routing communication protocols. Considering the emergency data, the two-hop neighbor information was used from the two-hop velocity-based routing and TDMA was adopted to guarantee deterministic timing restriction for real-time requirement. Meanwhile, the proposed protocol also considered the link quality to guarantee the reliability of transmission. There are several main tasks in the thesis:(1) Analyzed the existed routing protocols in Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks. Based on the classification of the routing protocols, this thesis focused on the mechanism of routing algorithms, the advantage and disadvantage of various typical routing protocols and it provided the research direction.(2) Proposed an effective routing protocol according to the considered routing metrics. Based on the new requirements of the routing algorithms in Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks, it ensured the routing metrics and made the design of the routing algorithm. The main routing metrics of this routing algorithm was to reduce the delay and improve the reliability. Meanwhile, considering the emergency data, a prior transmit and a timeslot allocation mechanisms were made to guarantee the real-time capability and reliability of the routing algorithm.(3) Implementation of the proposed algorithm and making the evaluation for the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm was simulating in OPNET Modeler. It is necessary to make sure the network model, communication model and simulation scenarios before simulation. Based on the simulation results, the routing algorithm was analyzed in many aspects.
