With the continuous development of the mobile communication technology, LTE boarded the stage of history as a new technical standard.LTE is evolved in the3G system,compared with the3G communication system network architecture, LTE has the merit of low complexity.This paper mainly studied on the changes that happened on the data link layer protocol of the LTE system.Including the change of function, and data transfer process.LTE system canceled the3G system of a Radio Network Controller (RNC),Most of the functions of the RNC are concentrated in the eNodeB, that lead to the change of the wireless interface protocol, especially the data link layer protocol.The data link layer comprises Packet Data Combined Pprotocol (PDCP), Radio Link Control (RLC) and Media Access Control (MAC) sub-layer.By introducing a new protocol entity, or new program, it could fulfill the functions of the the LTE data link layer.In this paper,OPNET software is used to design and simulation of the the LTE data link layer protocol on the basis of study on the specific process of the data link layer of the LTE system,network model, node model and process model are designed and simulated.Compared he simulation results of the throughput and latency with the WCDMA system,and analysis of the results is given.Finally, a summary and outlook is given on the main content of the paper.
