The evolution and innovation of Internet makes the spring up of new services such asIPTV, HDTV,3DTV, mobile multimedia and streaming video etc.,so the demand for theinformation transmission bandwidth has been experienced e xplosive growth. In order tomeet the rapid development of network flow, on the bone network level,40Gbps、100Gbpssystem had commercial deployed and the research of400Gbps or1Tbps opticalcommunication system has began.On the access network level,the higher requirement onnetwork flow and the support of multi-service is necessary.At present,the basic constructionof access network is PON of tree structure.The developme nt to higher speed of the existingTDM-PON is difficult.The emergence of OFDM-PON makes itself be the very powerfulcompetitor of next generation optical access network.OFDM technology,on the one hand,can be the modulation technique to improvespectral efficiency and capacity of the channel.On the other hand,it can achieve efficientOFDMA access using subcarrier,then achieve flexible bandwidth allocation of multi-userand multi-service.Different subcarrier and be allocated to different users or different servicessuch as TDM、FTTH、FTTB、mobile base station、WiMAX repeater、WiFi etc. Those featuresof OFDM technology make it appropriate for the application in access network.In this thesis we first introduce the research background and research status of thisproject and propose the research contents.Then we analyse the principle and networkarchitecture of OFDM-PON and elicit the issues should be considered about designing theMAC level protocol.We design the OFDM-PON MAC level protocol combined the MACprotocol of EPON and WDM-PON.Then we study the MAC algorithm and propose newalgorithm of better performance combined the existing algorithms.At last,we build networkmodel to analyse new algorithms and prove their performance using the network simulationsoftware OPNET.
