Study of Network-on-chip (NoC)-based Traffic Control Algorithm for Streaming Media On-demand System

The proposed of the on-chip network architecture, which transferring the date between multiple computing modules based on Switched network, brought the concept of the computer network to the system-on-chip. And it broke the traditional bus communication mode. But the communication problems that will appear in the computer network are also brought into the on-chip network. Traffic congestion phenomenon is one of the important reasons which leading to the performance degradation of data transmission network.This paper describes the network topology, exchange and routing algorithm in details. And on this basis, build a model of the network congestion control mechanism. The proposed mechanism of on-chip network congestion control covering network application layer, network interface layer, and routing layer. And the mechanism studies the network congestion problem from different angles and the different solutions. The real-time congestion control mechanisms, including a data injection method based on hot zone for judging, and the non-shortest path routing policy with the road identify. At the same time do a lot of simulation experiment by the network simulation software. Through the simulation results, in different models the network throughput of improved NoC (network-on-chip)virtual channel wormhole exchange model improved30%, the transmission delay reduced10%at least compared with the conventional algorithm. The results show that the strategy overcome the disadvantages of the original mechanism, and has good performance of control network traffic.
