With the emergence of Internet applications and services, as well as the tri-networks integration, telecommunications market should be building into the more efficient and economic MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) period; it should support a large number of users to access and suit for multi-service. MAN achieved the network interconnection with the regional or national backbone, it is essential to ensure the reliability of the data. In order to meet the needs of large-scale Internet access and offer a variety of Internet services, rack communication devices are becoming widely used. How to enhance the reliability of the rack communication equipment is one of the main topics.Main/Standby switching technology is one of important methods to improve the reliability of the rack communication equipment. Based on the analysis of the Architecture of aggregation ethernet switch and research of existing Main/Standby switching technology, this paper expect to achieve a simplified switching process, reducing switching time-consuming, and improve protection switching reliability by improving the Main/Standby switching technology and control channel.In this paper, we should discuss how to use up the core-distribution switches as testing equipment, and how to successfully improved its Main/Standby switching feature by using a private high reliability protocol--HA on its software architecture. On HA protocol-based Main/Standby switches, the data synchronization is isolated from the steps of the master and slave switchover. And the HA protocol provided high-reliability data transmission channel on data-link layer, so it can support those devices which haven’t any IP addresses.By testing the main high-end switches Main/Standby switching module, it is confirmed its high availability of the module. This Main/Standby switching module is equally applicable for aggregation ethernet switch which have higher requirements for the data accuracy and switching time. It can effectively avoid the switching process a large number of the bulk of the data synchronization, obviously reduces the switching time, ensure the consistency of the data and the state of the whole system in the maintenance before and after the switchover, highly simplified the complex switchover process, and improve its reliability at the same time.
