In the industrial area, automation technology has developed at a high speed, and communication technology also has changed constantly. Fieldbus technology is promoting their development.PROFIBUS (Process field bus) can realize the supervisory, data communication and control of field equipment level in the automatic workshop of factory. And it can achieve the real-time communication among PLC (Programmable Controller), field equipment, client and server, which can meet the requirements of realizing factory integrated automation and intelligent field devices. The research and application on PLC and PROFIBUS technology have significant meaning in the industrial automation area of our country.This paper aims to study communication technology of automatic production line based on PLC. The automatic production line is divided into five parts:feeding, processing, assembling, transporting and sorting. The task of first unit is automatic feeding; the second unit is production processing; the third unit is production assembling; the fourth unit is production transporting; the fifth unit is production sorting. The rectification program of communication is proposed which is based on the research for the hardware and software application of Siemens S7-300and S7-200, PROFIBUS and PPI communication protocol. The application interface of PROFIBUS communication protocol can be interconnected with field equipments, PLC and supervisory. The design of primary and slave station configuration, system program structure and communication control can be finished. This rectification program adopts Siemens S7-300PLC as first primary station and HMI (Human Machine Interface) TP170B as second primary station. The slave station employs Siemens S7-200PLC, inverter MM440and ET200M. Network communication of the primary and slave station in the automatic production line can be accomplished by PROFIBUS.The research on PROFIBUS protocols can help us grasp communication mechanism of PROFIBUS deeper. The combination of PLC control system and PROFIBUS technology can make the system conduct high speed real-time communication, and also can keep the system’s stability, safety and improving real-time performance.
