At present, as people spend approximately90%of their time at room, indoor air quality affects human health directly. However, the existing equipments for monitoring indoor air quality are expensive, less type of measurement and without function of wireless transmission. Considering the present situation of the indoor air monitoring equipments, an indoor air monitoring system, which could be used to monitoring of harmful gases and flammable gases, was designed, with the most popular embedded system and ARM processor.Taking the indoor air monitoring system as our object, Firstly, the current situation and problems of the indoor air quality were introduced. Secondly, operating system for embedded system, the processor, as well as the overall design of the monitoring system were discussed. Lastly, the the monitoring system’s hardware and software designs and implementation were introduced in detail. In terms of hardware design, Samsung S3C2440A microprocessor chip was selected as the core of the monitoring system hardware. In terms of software design, the embedded Linux operating system was used as the software development platform.In the software design of the monitoring system, Firstly, the linux driver program for LCD, PCF8591, SHT71, nRF24L01and so on, was designed. Secondly, the above driver programs were tested and verified by means of designing the related linux application program. Finally, the operator interface of the monitoring system was designed,which was based on Qtopia.Due to the Linux system’s high stability and reliability, the embedded Linux system was used in our monitoring system.Moreover, the user could easily upgrade, transplant and clip the system. The touch screen technology was adopted by the monitoring system to reduce the design of keys, and made it more portable.The monitoring system had a function of wireless transmission, this function not only allowed the user away from the harsh environment to test the air quality, but also solved the wiring difficulties when the user maked the muli-point test.
