As a supplemental force in museum’s workforce, Volunteers’ importance and statue inmodern society have increased. Voluntary activities started relatively late in China,compared to Western society. This essay will discuss about the necessity of voluntarywork for museums, based on voluntary’s conception. First, the help offered byvolunteers and their significance for museum work will be explored. Then this essaywill try to summarize the hysteretic development of volunteering in China, bycomparing to museums overseas. Based on that, research on management of museumvolunteers will be conducted. Previous researches focus on macro management, e.g.from the angle of social environmental development. However, this essay has adopteda new standpoint of management. Focusing on the development of the psychologicalagreement connection between volunteers and museums, the author will try to find theacting point of museum management and make suggestions based on it. Thesesuggestions are quite abstractive. Detailed improvement is needed according todifferent circumstances of museums. In one word, when strong psychologicalagreements are established between volunteers and museums, the big environment formuseum volunteers can be improved. Only when external and internal forces inmuseums cooperate and develop jointly, the maximum push of museum volunteeractivities can be realized.
