Research and Design of Embedded Monitoring System for Smart Homes

With the rising demands on inhabitancy environment, the applications of smart homes have become the inevitable trend of developments in dwelling house. This thesis is focused on the research of one lower-cost, simple and flexible embedded system, which uses portable terminals, such as mobile phone, PDA, and so on, to achieve long-distance communication through the GSM/GPRS networks.The ZigBee short-range-wireless technology is adopted to set up the family communication monitoring network, connecting the household electrical appliances, household electrical sensors, and wireless image monitoring system. The thesis concentrates on the design of whole system. The main works and achievements are as follow:the STM32F103 embedded system main board design, GPRS wireless module design, ZigBee short-range-wireless module design, etc. OV7725 image sensor is used to get the monitoring image and VC0706 jpeg compression module is used to export the image. The introduction of some environment sensors, such as smoke sensor and gas sensor, can effectively enhance the security of homes.The abnormal target detection algorithm for indoor surveillance using the serial port camera is also researched. Methods of adaptive state detection, small targets detection and adaptive background replacement method are proposed. The embedded system is established withμC/OS-Ⅱoperating system and STM32F103 processor. Based on MMS and SMS, wireless remote monitoring scheme is also researched.The experimental results show that scheme proposed in the thesis is advanced and effective, and it is able to meet the technical requirements of the long-distance home monitoring system.
