Nowadays, with the rapid change of the economic situations both in and abroad,the clothing industry is facing great opportunities and challenges under thebackground of the creativity economy. In order to survive in such a competitivecondition, the clothing industry of China must transform from the traditionalprocessing enterprises giving priority to the manufacture to the new innovativeenterprises focusing on the cultural creativity. Meanwhile, it must achieve the goal ofprominent performances by resource integration and effective management. As thecore resource of innovative enterprises, the management of the creative talents plays acrucial role in the enterprises’ competition. Some issues are based on theserequirements. They are which factors are the key factors affecting the initiative ofcostume designers, how to use performance assessment to improve the workefficiency of designers, what kind of performance management system can promotethe working enthusiasm and conscious activity of designers and how to perfect themanagement of the apparel industry of China aiming at the performance managementof designers. This paper is working on settling these issues by doing some relatedresearches.This paper uses the documentary method, the research method, the interviewingmethod and the questionnaire method, as well as the combination of the qualitativeanalysis and the quantitative analysis. With my experience of working in a garmentcompany, I explore the relationship between the performance management ofdesigners and the conscious activity of designers. This paper mainly studies the theoryof performance management system based on the knowledge workers. On the basis of existing structures and model studies, it does the survey of the current situation of theperformance management system which is comparatively representative, successfuland thorough in China. From the point of improving designers’ working enthusiasmand working efficiency, this paper tries to find out the factors which affect designers’conscious activities and to do surveys to testify them. And this paper alsodemonstrates some issues. They are the set of the performance indicators, the resultsand the valuation of the performance assessment in the process of performancemanagement, as well as the issue of whether the incentive methods based on theresults of the performance assessment can influence designers’ conscious activities.On the one hand, this paper aims to set up the actual and reasonable performancemanagement system and the incentive methods according to the research results. Onthe other hand, it also points out some shortcomings of performance managementsystem of designers in China and puts forward some suggestions on the improvement.
