The Relationship between Psychological Capital and Work Values in China

Work values are the extensions of one person’s values in the work field. It is a stable andcomprehensive belief system about career choice, work goals and work behaviors. So, it canbe a significant predictor of many important organizational behavior variables, such as jobperformance, organizational commitment, and organizational citizenship behavior.Psychological Capital, on the other hand, has become an important competitive advantage inmany companies’ development. Like work values, it is also an important predictor for manyorganizational behavior variables, such as job satisfaction, turnover intentions and jobperformance. Thus, the research to explore the seemingly close relationship between workvalues and psychological capital can not only enrich the theoretical content of this field, butalso can be an important inspiration for all the human recourse management process. Basedon that, this paper also wishes to help more companies attain healthy and sustainable growth,which finally may contribute to China’s economic restructuring and harmonious societybuilding.This paper puts forward hypotheses on the basis of reading and analyzing the literatureon the psychological capital and work values. Adopting two mature questionnaires, tested bymany other researches high in reliability and validity, this paper collected data from300managers and employees. With the application of reliability and validity analysis, regressionanalysis, correlation analysis and other statistical analysis on the data of201validquestionnaires, this research finally comes with many meaningful conclusions. They are：(1) The confidence and hope dimensions of psychological capital are positivelycorrelated with the cognitive work values.(2) The confidence is positively correlated with theinstrumental work values; while the optimism is negatively correlated.(3) The confidence andhope are positively correlated with the affective work values.
