A Research on the Growth Structure Features of Shanghai’s Service Industry

The problems currently in service industry of Shanghai are also the importantproblems showed during the economic development of Shanghai and even the wholeChina in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period. As the direction and steps of China’seconomic structure transformation have been cleared in The Twelfth Five-Year Plan,and the development achievements of ‘Four Centers’ and ‘Four Leadings’ wereassumed by Shanghai, so the development of Shanghai service industry was putforward the higher requirement. While paying great attention to the problem, theinherent regular pattern of service industry should be elaborately analyzed andresearched for the sustainable development of the industry.In this research, the characters of internal output and employment of Shanghaiservice industry were mainly analyzed, and the specific causes of the high growth ofShanghai service industry were explained, and inevitable structural characteristicschanged during the high growth of Shanghai service industry were also exploreddeeply. The results showed that the wholesale and retail industry and financialindustry were seen as the most important industry with the biggest contributions forthe high growth of service industry. And the employment scale of the wholesale andretail industry was always the biggest in Shanghai service industry.With the input-output data of Shanghai, the correlations between the tertiary industrywith its internal industries and the primary, secondary industries were described, andthe characters of the relationship between these correlations and the industryaffecting degree were further summarized. The internal industries of service industrywere separated into producer services and consumer services, and the causes of thegrowth in each industry were quantitatively analyzed. The results showed that thetransportation storage and postal services, hotels and catering services, leasing andbusiness service, scientific research technology service, geological prospecting service, water environment and public facilities management services, residentservice and others were taking the greater roles during the economic. So theseservice industries would be taken as optional leading industries for tertiary industrydevelopment. Besides, information transmission of computer and software servicesand leasing and business service were also the important service industries withlarger requirements that should be preferentially promoted.Finally the achievements of Shanghai financial industry during the EleventhFive-Year Plan period were listed. And the reasons of the low ratio of the financialindustry added value in the whole industry were analyzed, as incomplete marketingoperation of financial markets, single financial institutions and too large ratio thatbanking industry taken.
