With the high pace of economic globalization, any country cannot develop in isolation. International trade has been an indispensable part in a country’s economic development, and the scale of it has become an important index in measuring a country’s overall strength. To any country which is eager to stage its economic take-off, developing export-oriented economy is inevitably an efficient way to high economic growth. After entering the new century and the WTO, China’s international trade volume has been showing an increasing trend these years, regardless of the2007financial crisis. Generally, the ratio of dependence on foreign trade didn’t stop increasing till2007, from which year to2009, it showed a downward trend. From2010it began to rise again. China’s international trade volume jumped from509.7billion dollars in2001to3642billion dollars in2011, increasing seven-fold in just the last11years, with the average yearly increase rate of22.12%. The dependence of China’s economy on the world’s economy is rising, and so does the impact of global economic changes on China’s economy. In the aspect of regional development, every province in China is sparing no efforts to develop its own international trade by practical measures, taking advantage of their unique resource endowment and historic experience. In addition, in the ups and downs of international trade development, they also change their strategies to meet new demand and struggle to search new ways out.In the opening year of the "twelfth five-year plan"2011, facing the interior inflation pressure and the complex global economy. Shaanxi, with its GDP hitting1.2trillion and increasing by13.9%over the previous year., has been keeping a double-digit growth in ten consecutive years and ranks No.15among all the provinces. Specifically, the primary industry increased2.1billion yuan,13.9%over the previous year; The secondary industry increased0.63billion,16.9%over the previous year; The tertiary industry achieved433.4billion, increasing by11.7%over the previous year.In contrast with the GDP growth of Shaanxi, the international trade volume of it ranks only No.24among the provinces, and among the12western provinces, it ranks No.6after Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangxi, Xinjiang and Yunnan. The ratio of dependence on foreign trade of Shaanxi is far behind the country’s average level, and the international trade issue of Shaanxi is here to be paid more attention on.This paper firstly analyzes the status-quo of the ratio of dependence on foreign trade of the world and main countries, and the relationship between the ratio of dependence on foreign trade and economic growth of several countries, on the basis of which, it draws the conclusion that the increase of ratio of dependence on foreign trade is an global trend and it possesses a positive relationship with economic growth, which is subsequently demonstrated empirically. Then it analyses the status-quo of the ratio of dependence on foreign trade of Shaanxi and concludes that there is also a positive relationship between the ratio of dependence on foreign trade of Shaanxi and its economic growth through empirical demonstration.Based on the conclusion that there is a positive relationship between the ratio of dependence on foreign trade and the economic growth both in China and in Shaanxi, this paper then positions and analyses the level of Shaanxi’s foreign trade development through provincial comparison, concluding that the ratio of dependence on foreign trade of Shaanxi is far from enough in relative to its economic development. The paper then analyses the factors that influence Shaanxi’s foreign trade using a combination of factor analysis and comparative analysis. The paper then elaborates on the practical problems in Shaanxi’s foreign trade development, and probes into its causes, on the basis of which, several countermeasures are put forward for future reference.
