Along with the development of China, commercial banks which act as financial intermediate play more and more important roles in economy. How to make a further development of banks becomes a focusing issue. As banks’ development equals to banks’ efficiency improvement, efficiency improvement is also pivotal. The issues of efficiency evaluation, study of factors, direction of development are significant theoretically and practically.In this paper, DEA is used to analyze the efficiency of15commercial banks in period2004to2011. DEA-Malmquist index is used to analyze the efficiency change from2004to2011. Finally, efficiency, pure efficiency, scale efficiency, total factors efficiency change, efficiency change, pure efficiency change, scale efficiency change are calculated. In order to study the effect of factors to efficiency, econometric models are used to distinguish quantitative effect from factors. In the end, some corresponded proposals are put forward.The contents are followed:the first chapter introduces history and current surroundings of banking. The motivation of this paper is elaborated and different means for efficiency evaluation is displayed. In the end of this chapter, the skeleton of this paper is shown. The second chapter is an introduction to efficiency analysis and existing research. Besides, DEA, DEA-Malmquist index and Tobit are particularly elaborated. Recent research papers are elaborated in this chapter. The third chapter is to calculate China commercial banks’ efficiency. Different efficiency values are made out and illustrated by charts and tables. The forth chapter is to study effect of factors to efficiency. Various factors are thought to econometric models such as capital sufficiency, bad debts, and overseas profits. Virtual variable which represent state-owned banks are also made in econometric models. By the models, quantitative coefficients are calculated which is useful to evaluate the effect to efficiency. The fifth chapter is to conclude the results of this paper and propose suggestions. A conclusion is made and reacted suggestions are proposed.
