Effects of Organic Fertilization on Physical and Chemical Properties of Soil and Crop Growth in the Semi-Arid Areas of Southern Ningxia

Though the application of organic manure and straw returning gradient, the effect of organic fertilization on the dry soil physical and chemical properties and crop growth was researched for consecutive two years in this study. The results had a great theoretical and practical significance for establishment and perfection of soil capacity expansion and technology to enhance rainfall use efficiency model in semi-arid region. The main results were as follows:1. The results showed: the application of organic manure can increase soil water storey between 0-100cm soils, treatment of high fertility and middle fertility higher than CK significantly, 19.2%, 10.7% higher than CK respectively; the effect of straw returning to soil water storey was not obvious.2. The application of organic manure can increase nutrient obviously, organic matter increased 17.6%, Total-K increased 30.5%, available -P increased 29.3%, available-K increased 40.7%, available-N increased 11.9%; the application of straw returning increased organic matter and available-K significantly, respectively was 16.4%, 19.4%.3. The change of content of soil urease and alkaline phosphates was great in organic fertilization treatment between 0-20cm soils, activity of enzyme increased with increasing of fertilization amount, increasing range of soil urease was between 36%-66%, increasing range of phosphatase was between 17%-26%, activity of enzyme increased significantly in straw returning treatment, activity of enzyme increased with increasing of straw amount, increasing range of soil urease was between 8.1%-31.3%, increasing range of phosphatase was between 4.2%-17%.4. The results show that: compared with CK, soil bulk density decreased 0.93% in organic manure treatment, soil porosity increased slight; the treatment of straw returning decreased soil bulk more remarkably, decreasing range was between 0.7%-6.6%, soil porosity increased slight.5. The application of organic manure increased quantity of soil macro aggregate, continuous using organic manure made soil aggregates increased 2.3%; the effect of straw returning to soil aggregate was not obviously. 6. The treatment of high, middle organic manure made dry matter accumulation higher than low treatment and CK; the effect of straw returning to dry matter accumulation was obviously, the treatment of high and low straw returning had a significant difference.7. The results of organic fertilization for two consecutive years show that, organic fertilizer can increased yield of crops and WUE, yield and WUE of linseed increased 6%-12% and 12.8%-42%, yield and WUE of wheat increased 13.9%-34% and 6%-18.1%; straw returning also can increased yield of crops and WUE, yield and WUE of corn increased 14.8%-18.1% and 10.3%-12.9%, yield and WUE of millet increased 10.6%-67.3% and 1.2%-59.4%.
