Research on Passive Sampling and Instrumental Determination of Formaldehyde Gas in Environment

Formaldehyde has been listed as an important monitoring index of nowadays air pollutants. The national standard determination method for formaldehyde is AHMT spectrophotometric by means of active sampling. In this thesis, a set of passive sampling-HPLC detection method for formaldehyde gas was developed on terms of shortcomings of national standard method.Based on the pre-column derivatization principle for the determination of formaldehyde, the absorption solution of passive sampler was established. Through adding different amounts of glycerol, the influence of glycerol on sampling efficiency was studied and the final composition of absorption solution was 3000mg/L DNPH with 20%(w/w) glycerol as moisturizing agent. The repeatability, extraction recovery, sampling recovery of sampling and sampling concentration-time curve was also investigated. By comparison of different materials, the material of absorption layer was optimized and the blank concentration was effectively reduced. With the establishment of formaldehyde derivative reaction condition, the injection repeatability and stability of derivative solution was carried out. The linear range was 0.05-6mg/L with a good linearity correlation coefficient (R2=0.9999). The limit of detection and the limit of quantitation was respectively 7.2μg/L and 24.2μg/L. Using active and passive sampling, the absorption coefficient for formaldehyde was determined to change the result into the practical concentration in environment.Finally, the passive sampling method was applied to the measurement of acetaldehyde and formaldehyde of timber. Furthermore, the application scope is expanded to the determination of aldehydes in environment, which is of great practical value.
