Water is the source of life. Humanity’s survival and development fundamentally depends on the water gain and the control of water resources. Land use is one of the most direct form of human activity, and it’s a concentrated expression of the landscape process that human transform the Earth’s surface. Different human activities lead to different land use patterns and different levels. Different human activities also lead to different pollution caused by the destruction on water environment. Therefore, further researching and revealing the mechanism of interaction between land use and water pollution, have important scientific significance for the scientific use of land and prevent water pollution,.Taihu Lake is one of districts which have the most rapid economic development, the highest industrialized level and the largest population density in China. In recent years, the significant land use change and exquisite resource consumption, resulting in serious deterioration of water quality of Taihu Lake and frequent environmental emergency, has restricted the development of economic and social. The comprehensive research of pollution control in Taihu Lake Basin, not only conducts to the sustainable development of watershed, but also has references to water pollution control in other areas.Based on the research summarized the interaction between land use and water pollution in domestic and foreign papers, analysis of the effects of water pollution caused by land use in Taihu Lake Basin. According to the calculation of the gross water contamination by humanity’s activities and the amount of land area occupied by people, the pollution can be changed from being produced by human activities into produced by different types of land use. At last, the pollution load of unit area produced by different types of land use types is calculated.Meanwhile, according to the water quality, self-repair capacity in Taihu Lake Basin and the documentation’s requirements of water environment controlled by national government, the total amount of pollution limits of total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN) in Taihu Lake were set for controlling the gross pollution. In order to better defining responsibility to ensure the completion of control objectives, the Taihu Lake Basin is divided into different control zones of land-use, and then the pollution limits of the lake are broken down into to the control zones. Besides, the control standards of total pollutant load in recent years (2012) and Long-term year (2020) are established by different control district.Based on the above-mentioned work, using GIS secondary development, the component Arc Engine, and visual language C#, started developing programming, design and realize the Taihu Lake basin water pollution effect evaluation by land use and forecast system. Take Wuxi City as an example, the TP, TN total pollutant loads produced by different types of land use under different control district of land use are calculated. Single factor evaluation method is used to evaluate the pollution load created by different land-use control district in different periods, and forecast the status of land use in accordance with land use control standards, giving the simple proposals of land-use adjustment by the alarm.
