A Study of College English Teachers’ Awareness of Learner Autonomy in Language Learning

Changes in the field of language teaching has never stopped, it is an indisputable fact. One of the most eye-catching when the number of teacher-centered to learner-centered transition. Therefore, the research on learner autonomy has gradually become a hot topic. However, a large part of the research has focused on exploring the impact of learner autonomy factors or investigation of learner autonomy learning. Although there are some research for the promotion of learner autonomy measures but only focus on the proposal was made, rather than empirical research. This article combines qualitative research and quantitative research, and the use of questionnaires (teachers and students of two questionnaires), interviews and classroom to observe the investigation in three ways. Theme Yunnan University English teachers understanding of learner autonomy, because it has a direct impact on their ability to effectively promote English teaching learner autonomy. Yunnan Normal University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Agricultural University 72 English teachers and 60 students participated in the survey. Three teachers were then accepted about 12 interviews last four teachers of English classes choose to do to observe each as a unit (about 6 hours). Most previous studies investigating the learners, as we all know, teachers play a pivotal role in the promotion of learner autonomy process, this process requires both teachers and students efforts, the study is the teachers and students. Survey Three main conclusions: First, most of the teachers did not fully understand the concept and content of learner autonomy; Second, even though they realize that teaching to promote learner autonomy, self-monitoring and self- aspects of the evaluation or seriously neglected; teachers affected their understanding and promotion of learner autonomy learner autonomy in language learning cognitive and some cultural beliefs, as well as China's education system. Finally, foreign language teaching in China several insights: First, teachers should promote learner autonomy as is your own responsibility;, students to be aware of the culture prepared with the learning autonomy of their importance to teachers together to achieve good results; Third, China's education system and schools should also provide the appropriate support.
